SMASH and grab robbers stole more than £30,000 of jewellery from a Chislehurst shop.

The criminals pulled up on motorbikes outside Foreman and Beatty, in Royal Parade, just before 2pm on April 10.

Two pillion passengers wearing helmets with visors got off the bikes and smashed the windows with what police say were axes or hatchets.

They grabbed jewellery, including a diamond bangle worth £5,000 and several other bracelets and rings priced between £700 and £3,000 each.

After a few minutes, they leapt back on to the motorbikes, which were driven off down Bull Lane towards Sidcup.

Manager Shaun Wood was in the shop alone at the time and alerted police using a silent panic button.

He said: "I was just sitting down working and they started smashing away at the window with an axe.

"I just hit the panic button and started the electric grille which covers the window."
