Tories can’t blame market forces

Friday, April 21, 2017 - 11:00

From Mike Nobbs, Newport:
IW Council leader Cllr Dave Stewart appears to have a short memory, with reference to hitting out at holiday companies for charging ‘ridiculous prices’ during school breaks.

The Conservative government in the 1980s ushered in the free market, or is Cllr Stewart now in denial of being a Conservative?
The free market is the law of supply and demand. When parents take their children away on holiday at the end of a school term, the price goes up, because of the demand for holidays, that is not the fault of the holiday companies but the fault lies with the free market.
The Supreme Court gave a verdict on the definition of the law, which Jon Platt, bless him, is in breach of.
The people who do not like the free market should be careful who they vote for.
In 1979, I, like thousands of others, did not vote for a Conservative government but, being democrats, we have to live with the consequences of a foolish vote?
