A good Samaritan was duped by a bogus caller who claimed he was collecting for the blind.

The victim, a 51-year-old woman, was at home in Woodcock Hill, Harrow, late on Wednesday evening last week when she heard a knock on the door.

The caller flashed an identity card and tried to persuade her to buy some of his products. When she said she was not interested, he began to rub his leg claiming he had hurt it. She told police she felt sorry for him and invited him in.

The caller asked for a plaster and the woman went into the kitchen. When she returned the man had run off with her handbag and lap top computer.

The caller was white, aged about 25, and wearing a blue waterproof jacket with zip front and blue jeans and was carrying a black holdall.
