DEEP Roots is a substantial family home, designed and built by the current owners in an historic part of the Island.

The village of Newchurch takes its name from the ‘new church’ that was built by Norman monks back in 1087. Almost a thousand years later and the name still remains, along with the church.
Deep Roots has been constructed to a high specification and is under a ten-year LABC warranty that began in 2015. Though it may be a new home, the current owners have ensured that there are nods to history, character and presence.
For example, in the porch and hallway, and beneath the super log burner, there is reclaimed flagstone flooring that was unearthed during the building process. The oak entrance porch is grand, light and bold and gives you a taste of things to come.
Crossing the threshold, there is a cloakroom on the right with enough space to be used comfortably as a utility room — this is much larger than a standard WC.
Venturing further and turning left brings you into the open-plan lounge, kitchen/diner with its magnificent statement fireplace. This is worthy of special attention as it is double sided with a mantel on either side and forms the heart of this home: when being constructed, the ground floor configuration was built with the fireplace to be at its core. It’s superb.
On one side is the lounge with double aspect windows and French doors into the garden; on the other side is the dining area with double doors into the side garden, and of course: the cottage kitchen.
The kitchen has been fitted with a good range of plum units, solid oak worktops, double butler sink, range cooker with five-ring hob and an integrated dishwasher. There is also a breakfast bar.
The stairs bring you on to a large galleried landing that is full of light. From this central space there are four bedrooms and the family bathroom.
The dual-aspect master bedroom is smart and has an en suite with a spacious triple shower cubicle and luxurious waterfall shower head. There is also a built-in wardrobe and lovely far-reaching countryside views — a vista shared by the bathroom and second bedroom.
The family bathroom is a good size and has a white independent roll-top bath beneath wall art that reads: ‘soak all your cares away’. With the rural outlook, you almost certainly could.
Thinking ahead, the current owners designed Deep Roots with expansion in mind: services are in place to allow the loft to be converted into a super bedroom with an en suite to create a second floor. Similarly, should a conservatory wish to be added, pipework is in place to follow through from the main house.
Outside there is parking for four or five vehicles. The garden wraps around three sides of the property and offers little pockets of space: a decked area, a paved area, flower bed borders, a pretty pond and a vegetable plot.
