RED Gables in Kite Hill, Fishbourne, is an elegant Sussex farmhouse-style home.
Handsome red peg tiles add character to this grand property and the white windows, black frames catch the eye.
Off-road parking, a garage, and large front and back gardens add further desirability to a very nice property in a sought-after area.
The location is convenient for ferry terminals. There are great walks and it is an easy drive or bus ride from Fishbourne to Ryde or Newport.
The green-fingered would find themselves in gardening heaven. To the front is a large garden with mature planting which screens the house from the road. At the back, there is an even larger garden with a lawn, shrubs, trees, and flower beds.
Although a touch of upgrading and modernisation may be required, the house itself has lashings of character and wonderful quirks such as herringbone-style brick flooring in the porch, open fireplaces, an airy entrance hallway, large landing and ceiling beams.
Every room has a great feature, from a beautiful garden outlook to built-in wardrobes or cupboards in all the bedrooms.
The porch of Red Gables opens into the tiled floor entrance hall, with an original fireplace and under-stairs cupboard. Turn right into the study and enjoy another open fire. Or, turn left into the lounge with a beamed ceiling and your eye is drawn to a third fireplace. Double doors lead into the dining room, overlooking the garden.
Completing the ground floor is a cloakroom, rear porch, kitchen — with a gas cooker point and space for a fridge, breakfast table and plumbing for a dishwasher — and a large utility room, with access to the front and back gardens.
On the first floor are four double bedrooms and a fifth bedroom, plus a large bathroom, loft access, linen cupboard and under-eaves storage. The master bedroom has a spacious en-suite bathroom.
I have viewed many properties during the year I have been County Press property writer — and Red Gables has easily sailed into my top three properties of the week.
