I must agree with the recent comments made by your reader regarding Firework Night (News Shopper, November 22). It seems that the old rhyme about the gunpowder plot should be re-written to start remember, remember all of November and some of October as the celebration appears to have literally lost the plot!
Fireworks have been exploding for the last four weeks at all times of the night, frightening young children and pets and annoying people generally.
My young grandson of three is now petrified and dreads fireworks, nevertheless, the continuation of celebrating one of historys failures has managed to bolster the profits of greedy vendors.
We already practice overkill with the commercialisation of Christmas but with fireworks, the term overkill could take on a more sinister meaning.
So let us all be more responsible and restrict this particular festivity to its allotted date.
