NEWPORT stormed into the fourth round of the FA Vase with a tremendous 4-1 win away at Oxfordshire side Ardley United on Saturday.

Joe Rayner gave the Islanders the lead in the 16th minute, heading in from a corner before two goals from Aleks Przespolewski either side of the half time break gave Newport a seemingly unassailable lead.

Tom McInnes, who had provided a sublime assist for Newport's third goal, then capped a fine day for the club with a goal of his own.

Ardley did grab a consolation in the final minute but by then the celebrations had started.

Meanwhile, in the Sydenhams Wessex League, an 87th minute goal from Mikey Jones earned Cowes Sports all the points in an edgy game at home to Fleet Spurs.

Jones turned the ball in from six yards after a through-ball from Gareth Bricknell.

East Cowes Vics had a bad day at the office, losing 5-0 at Petersfield Town.
