Cowes battle for brilliant draw

COWES Sports came from behind to gain a brilliant draw at home to high flying Poole Town on Saturday in the Sydenhams Wessex League, Premier Division.

There are 18 places between the two sides and Poole, who aren't used to losing, struggled to find a way past the resilient Cowes defence. Eventually the deadlock was broken in the 55th minute when Poole took the lead from a close-range header.

But just seven minutes later Poole were caught on the break by an excellent run from Mark Augustus, who drilled home with style.

Despite Poole's best attempts, they were unable to regain the lead, while at the other end Cowes had two gilt-edged chances at the death to take the win. However Kev Winchcombe's men should be delighted with a point.

Meanwhile, at the Peter Henry Ground, Brading Town also secured a valuable result, beating Lymington Town 2-1. Brading's goals were scored by Scott Jones in the first half, with Josh Appell hitting the winner.

Newport's match at home to Bournemouth was postponed, as was East Cowes Vics's match with Farnborough North End, both due to waterlogged pitches.
