COMMENTARY

COWES Sports kept their cool to win the IW Senior (Gold) Cup last night (Monday), beating East Cowes Vics on penalties.

For 90 minutes of the match however, the cup had Vics' name on it, as Andy Ebbs's goal had given them a slender 1-0 lead.

But it was in the fifth minute of injury time that Cowes came back, skipper Gareth Bricknell scoring a stunning equaliser from 25 yards out.

And, after a goalless period of extra time, it was spot kicks which decided the outcome.

Cowes began the shoot-out and always held the lead. And when Joe Winchcombe saved an effort from Sam Yelland, it was down to Josh Appell to score the winner for the Yachtsmen, which he did with ease, sparking jubilant scenes.
