COWES Sports's amazing unbeaten run of 14 games came to an end tonight (Tuesday).

The Yachtsmen were beaten 1-0 at Laverstock and Ford in Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League, and are now five points off second-placed Petersfield Town - who defeated East Cowes Vics 3-0 tonight - in the race for promotion.

In the Premier Division, Newport left it late for their latest victory, over Blackfield and Langley.

A 93rd minute strike from Charlie Smeeton earned them the points in a 2-1 victory. They took the lead in the second half with a penalty through Iain Seabrook, before Blackfield equalised.
