Disappointment for Yachtsmen

COWES Sports suffered their first Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1 defeat of the season today (Saturday), with a disappointing display at home to second-placed Brockenhurst.

The Yachtsmen's lead at the top was cut to three point by their rivals, who have a game in hand.
The hosts were lacklustre in the first half and the 2-0 lead Brockenhurst carved was no fluke. Though Cowes came out with more urgency in the second half - and gained a goal from Craig Insley early on - they were unable to draw level and Brockenhurst were assured the points when they scored a penalty with ten minutes left to make it 3-1.
In the day's other senior match, East Cowes Vics came from 2-0 down at US Portsmouth to salvage a draw, Keelan Sainsbury and Chris Elliot with the goals.
Newport's Premier Division home game with New Milton was called off because of a waterlogged pitch at St George's Park. It was one of many matches involving Island sides to be called off, with at least 18 games postponed.
