NEWPORT'S FA Cup dreams are over after a brave defeat at home to Salisbury City today (Saturday).

The Wessex Premier League side fought hard but were ultimately outclassed by Conference side Salisbury, who scored all three of their goals in the first half.

They broke the deadlock in the 16th minute when Chris McPhee volleyed in from just outside the box, and he made it two in the 32nd minute, with a header.

Their third came with a lovely turn and close range shot from Jamie White.

Newport had their chances throughout the game but lacked the vital finishing touch, while at the other end, Gary Streeter was outstanding form to keep Salisbury at bay.

Club chairman Paul Phelps said: "I'm so proud of the lads, three leagues apart and especially during the second half there was little to tell between them."

In the Wessex League Division 1, Cowes Sports travelled to Amesbury and won 2-0 with goals from Tom Dye and a penalty from Darren Williams.

East Cowes Vics came from a goal down at home to beat Fleet Spurs 3-1, with goals from Harry Mulholland, Josh Appell and an own goal.
