Woodford XV 26

Barking 2nds 10

(Friendly)

AN EXPERIMENTAL Woodford side gave an encouraging performance in muddy conditions against Barking seconds to win 26-10 at Highams on Saturday.

The home line-up included players from all levels including the youth team.

There were some fine displays from half backs Andrew Wharakura and Ross Fisher, centres Nick Richardson and Ed Griffin and wings Andy Whittaker and Barry Goude.

Woodford's pack held a weight advantage and a sustained drive allowed hooker Dyfrig Walters to dive over the line, Fisher converting.

A second try from Blackman gave the home side a 14-0 lead.

Barking enjoyed a spell of pressure after the interval and scored two unconverted tries, both from good threequarter moves on the wings.

But Woodford soon regained the inititive and put the game out of their visitors' reach with a second try for Walters and one for Fisher.

There were chances to extend the lead in the closing stages but too often the ball was kicked forward rather than kept in hand.

WOODFORD: Dilley, Whittaker (sub: Luggeri 48min), Griffin, Richardson, Goude, Brannaghan, Walters, Morris, Wharakura, Fisher, Blackman, Dawson, Meskell, James, Clegg.

COLTS: Eighty young Woodford rugby players descended on Leamington on Sunday for a Minis Festival.

The boys aged 6-11 took on teams from Winnington Park, Macclesfield, Leamington, Wolverhampton and Rugby Lions.

The best performance from the Highams lads came from the under-9 team who won their first four games without conceding a try then drew 5-5 in the decider against Winnington who won the group on count-back.

The under-10s also came second in their group and the under-11s came third. New faces bring Woodford a friendly victory in the mud
