SERGEI REBROV'S transfer to Tottenham Hotspur could be completed within two weeks, according to the player himself.

Dynamo Kiev's brilliant striker Rebrov, 26, said this week: 'They (Spurs) managed to find a common language with me, now it's a matter of agreeing a fee. I am confident that within two weeks the deal will be signed and sealed.

'I am looking forward to playing English football. I prefer it to Italian football although I can't say why.

'Tottenham and their coach George Graham get strikers to run to get the ball which I am used to as I play like that all the time.'

The Ukraine international's signing would be the coup that Spurs fans have been hoping for all season. The club would have to smash their transfer record of £6million (for Les Ferdinand) as Kiev would want at least £10m and Rebrov would expect a weekly salary of £25,000.

Arsenal and Glasgow Rangers are also reported to be interested in Rebrov, who has scored over 100 league goals for Kiev and 24 in Europe.

Director of football David Pleat confirmed: 'We do have an interest and we have had talks but nothing has been finalised yet.'

But Pleat played down other media reports on Wednesday linking Spurs with a series of other strikers including Celtic's Mark Viduka, Hibernian's Kenny Miller, Malaga's Fernando Sanz and Rosenburg's John Carew.

Pleat denied Spurs had made a £8.5m bid for Viduka but admitted they had been watching Miller, Sanz and Carew.

He said: 'We watched Mallorca playing Malaga recently but there will not be any follow-up. We are also aware of the brighter young Scottish players like Miller and did watch a recent Hibs game which explains this link.

'George Graham has watched Carew and he even spent some time training with us but we will not be signing him. In fact it looks like he will be going to Germany in the summer. Any stories put out by his agent that we have been in touch with Rosenburg about Carew, or they with us, are untrue.'

Tottenham's policy of bringing youthful talent to the club is beginning to bear fruit as three of this season's teenage signings finished the game against Derby on Saturday.

Simon Davies came on at half-time while Matthew Etherington and David McEwan entered the fray with 20 minutes to go.

Ex-Dulwich Hamlet striker McEwan, making his debut, almost scored with his first touch, a header which dipped just over. In a lively 20 minutes, he had two other shots on goal which both went wide.

The kids will be out in force again on Saturday when Spurs take on newly crowned Premiership champions Manchester United at Old Trafford.
