COWES Sports gained a vital three points at Lymington Town last night (Tuesday), while Newport progressed to the semi-final of the Gold Cup.
After going a goal behind in the first minute, Cowes levelled through Jason Malcolmson, before John McKie fired in the winner before half-time.
Cowes stay 19th but the win increased the gap between them and the sides below them in the Sydenhams Wessex League Premier Division.
Elsewhere, Newport beat Island league Division 1 side Ventnor 2-0 in the quarter-final of the Gold Cup.
Newport had to wait until the 64th minute before finding the net through Connor Kelly’s penalty, before the winger raced through to score his second five minutes later.
Tonight (Wednesday), East Cowes Vics will play Binstead & COB at Beatrice Avenue in the Gold Cup quarter-final.
