Mansfield Road 0, Shanklin Ladies 4
SHANKLIN restarted their season and their push for promotion with a comfortable win on Sunday.
The small muddy pitch suited the home side’s tactics of making Shanklin’s task more difficult but the Islanders were always in control of a very one-sided affair.
The margin of victory could been nearer their 10-1 home victory earlier in the season but another win and three more points after a long journey to Oxford was welcome.
In-form Georgia DYE opened the scoring after just 12 minutes, with a 25-yard drive which gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Shortly after, Sarah WRIGHT doubled the advantage following in on a parried shot to stab home from six yards.
One of the few spells of flowing football led to the third, when a neat move between Rowan Treagus and Kim Masterton led to a shot being spilled by the Mansfield keeper and Nicola BRIGGS took advantage.
Shanklin continued to dominate after the break, Gemma Woodford not having a shot to save. TREAGUS added a customary goal to complete the scoring. Reserve team assistant manager Beki Rider had an excellent game at full back and Lucy Blake, 16, made an impressive debut as a second-half substitute.
Shanklin: Woodford, Rider, Webb, Kilcullen, Wright, Dye, Merryfield, Briggs, Masterton, Cullen, Treagus. Subs: Arnold, Blake.
