THERE were smiles all round for the three senior Island sides taking part in the qualifying round of the FA Vase today.
Newport enjoyed a 4-1 romp over Whitchurch Utd at St George's Park, with Iain Seabrook's hat-trick a highlight. Matt Evans grabbed the Port's fourth.
Scott Jones's first-half goal was all Brading Town needed to get past Hartley Wintney away from home, while East Cowes Vics did a great job in defeating fellow Sydenhams Wessex League Division 1 side Andover New Street, 3-1.
Cowes Sports, on the other hand, had a torrid time at home to Stockbridge in Division 1.
Dominating the first half the Yachtsmen were highly unlucky not to go into the break 1-0 up, after Lee Davies' effort hit the bar.
Shortly after the restart, there was a 35 minute delay in play after the Stockbridge goalkeeper, Alan Ralph, was struck on the head by a shot. After he was taken to hospital for further treatment, the visitors went ahead. Craig Insley was then sent off for a foul but sub Gareth Bricknell levelled things up with a free kick.
Matters were level in terms of players, too, when Stockbridge had a man sent off for a dangerous tackle but Cowes were later reduced to nine men when Jamie Dyer got his second booking.
Stockbridge sealed a 2-1 win with a goal in the 85th minute, leaving Cowes still winless in the league so far.
