THE road to the FA Cup final began in style today (Saturday) for the Island's senior sides.
In the first extra-preliminary round of the competition, Aleks Przespolewski struck twice for Newport as they travelled to New Milton Town, and won 2-0, while East Cowes Vics came from 2-0 down to defeat Verwood Town at Beatrice Avenue.
After a goalless first half, Verwood scored two goals inside two minutes to seemingly put the game beyond doubt.
But Vics were determined and a great floating header from Matt Evans brought them to within a goal. A rangy effort from captain Wayne Newnham levelled affairs, before a fantastic free kick in injury time from Keelan Sainsbury won it.
Cowes Sports visit Christchurch tomorrow (Sunday).
