Huge wins for senior sides

FOOTBALLALL three of the Island's senior sides had massive victories on Saturday.

Newport progressed to the second round proper of the FA Vase after a great 2-0 win over Swanage and Herston Town.

Ross Gregory gave them the lead in the 39th minute and progression was sealed when Darren Powell added Newport's second.

Meanwhile, in Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League, Cowes Sports and East Cowes Vics netted 14 goals between them.

At Laverstock and Ford, Cowes Sports won 8-0, with Gareth Bricknell (four) and Darren Williams (two) among the goalscorers.

Vics defeated Ringwood Town 6-0, with goals from Joe Adams, two, Chris Elliott, Josh Appell, Tom Scovell and Keelan Sainsbury scoring.

Their reserves travelled to Ringwood in the Wyvern Combination League, and had similar success, winning 7-1. Nathan Barlow scored a hat-trick and other goals were scored by Ben Gregory, two, and Mikey Jones, two.
