NEWPORT and Cowes Sports suffered huge disappointment, and dents in their league campaigns on Saturday.

Newport's unbeaten away form in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier Division came to an end at Horndean, losing 3-2.

They took the lead through an audacious Aleks Przespolewski goal, lobbed in from the halfway line, but two goals in 90 seconds gave Hornden the advantage. In the second half, they extended their lead and although Ryan Oatley scored late on, and  Horndean player was sent off, the Islanders were unable to find an equaliser.

Meanwhile, in Division 1, Cowes Sports saw their lead at the top cut even further when they drew 2-2 at home with Petersfield, in a game featuring three red cards.

Dom Burbidge gave the Yachtsmen an early lead and when Gareth Bricknell made it 2-0 the game looked fairly safe.

But a bad tackle on Joe Phelps ended with both teams down to ten men, and Petersfield soon pulled one back. Cowes were then reduced to nine men with another red card and with the man advantage, the visitors equalised at the death to earn a point.

East Cowes Vics's game at Laverstock and Ford was off due to a frozen pitch.
