Sven Hamer, a 25-year-old from Kingston weighing in at 12st 10lb at light-heavyweight, is enjoying the best spell of his career so far.

In his last contest against Robert Peel he won in the first round. This time he took on Chesterfield's reliable Greg Scott Briggs at Caesar's in Streatham. Hamer started with solid jabs to the head and body pushing Briggs on his back foot; Hamer then moved inside and forced a standing count with combination shots to the head and body.

Then Hamer moved to the side and threw a right hand over the top forcing a standing count.

In the second round, Hamer, told to be a bit more careful by his coach Freddie Barr, applied pressure sending Briggs to the canvas once more. Referee John Lewis stepped in and saved Briggs from any more punishment. Also on the same bill Conelius Carr won against Birmingham's tough Tommy Vincent on points at middleweight.

Sven Hamer's next contest will be on December 14 in Hull, in a final eliminator for the British light-heavy title.
