THERE was joy and pain for Island sides in the quarter-finals of the Sydenhams Wessex League Cup last night (Tuesday).
Division 1 side East Cowes Vics produced a stunning all-round performance, and goals in the second half, to defeat Premier Division Bournemouth Poppies 4-0 away from home.
Matt Evans netted twice, as did Wayne Newnham and substitute Charlie Urry, to put them into the semi-finals.
Newport, however, will not be joining them after a disappointing performance at Blackfield and Langley ended in a 4-1 defeat.
Their only goal came eight minutes from time from GC Giancovich.
