EAST Cowes Vics were not spared mercy by an in-form Amesbury Town at Beatrice Avenue on Saturday.

Amesbury, fresh from an 8-2 midweek victory in Division 1 of the Sydenhams Wessex League, took advantage of an out-of-sorts Vics side who seemed to collapse in the second half.

The mainland side raced into a 2-0 lead, inside the first six minutes but a minute later Vics halved the deficit with a goal from captain Chris ELLIOTT.

The game settled down after this and Vics created good chances through Elliott and Dan Verstraeten, but were unable to make them count.

In the second half, however, Vics had no chance as Amesbury scored five unanswered goals. They made it 3-1 in the 48th minute and 4-1 just four minutes later.

Vics had a good chance when Steve Perfect’s shot grazed the bar but that was to be their last challenge as Amesbury ran in three more goals.

Vics: Russell, Rigby, Cragg, Stagg, McCormack, Perfect, Verstraeten, Stead, Elliott, Turner, Nash. Subs: Watterson, Furmidge, Todd.
