Finchley 19

Tabard A 7

Finchley's long-serving stand-off and ace goal-kicker Simon Bullough bowed out in style as his side produced their best home performance of the season to defeat Tabard's second string.

Despite the water-logged pitch and greasy ball, both sides did their best to play 15-man rugby.

After 30 minutes of fierce tackling from both sides, the visitors broke the deadlock with a try that came gift-wrapped from Finchley, Mark Collinson intercepting a Bullough pass to run half the length of the pitch and score, Mark Trippick converting.

Undismayed Finchley went back onto the attack and some intricate exchanges between forwards and backs allowed skipper Micky Clifford to send winger James Kavanagh racing to the line, Bullough levelling the scores with the conversion.

Finchley's next score came after a classic piece of rugby, Heath and Hawtrey-Woore making the initial breaks before Bullough popped a pass to second row Lee Myall, who powered over on the burst depite the close attention of two would-be tacklers.

Bullough converted, and slick handling then allowed Tim McAuliffe to touch down for the last score of the game, to leave Finchley in good heart for this week's Scottish tour.
