COWES Sports showed their title credentials on Saturday as they crushed their nearest rivals 4-0.

The game against Team Solent in Division 1 of the Wessex League was the biggest test for leaders Cowes but they brushed aside their opponents, away from home, with goals from Mikey Jones, two, Dom Burbidge and Joe Phelps.

Phelps's goal came after goalkeeper Ed Hatt was sent off for foul play.

Meanwhile, East Cowes Vics continued their revival with a 1-0 home win over Amesbury Town, a Matt Evans penalty proving to be the difference.

Meanwhile in the Premier Division, Newport had to come from behind to get something against high-fliers Downton.

The hosts went ahead after just ten minutes but a penalty from Aleks Przespolewski earned the Port a vital point.

Newport also found out they will be facing Ascot Town in next weekend's FA Vase fifth round, after they won their fourth round game 3-0 against Borrowash Victoria.
