SYDENHAMS Wessex League Premier Division leaders Newport have held off the challenge of the side tipped to win the title today (Saturday).
The Islanders travelled to the formidable Sholing and, after going a goal down in the first half, equalised with a penalty from Iain Seabrook, after John McKie was fouled.
Newport were then on top for the rest of the game as they looked for a winner, but had to settle for a draw. The result means Newport stays at the top of the table, although they share the same points as Winchester City who won today.
In Division 1, Cowes Sports bounced back with a thumping 5-2 home win over Hayling United, Lee Davies, Jordan Browne, Nathan Lewis and Jared Wetherick all on target, with an own goal to make it five.
East Cowes Vics's woes continued, however, with a 1-0 defeat at Fleet Spurs.
