FOOTBALLFIVE new teams will feature in next season’s IW Saturday League.
At the 111th AGM of the IW Football Association, held at St George’s Park on Tuesday, Brading Town Reserves, stepping down from Sydenhams Wessex League, Combination 2, will start in a very strong looking Division 2 and two new teams, East Cowes Youth and Gurnard Sports, will play in Division 3.
Cowes Sports Reserves, stepping down from Sydenhams Wessex League Combination 1, feature in a 14-team Division 1, which includes West Wight, Binstead COB, St Helens, Red Star Spartans, Oakfield, Brighstone, Shanklin, Northwood, Carisbrooke, Niton, GKN, Cowes Sports Reserves, Newchurch and Newport Reserves.
Division 2 contains Rookley, Kyngs Towne, Arreton, Brading Town Reserves, Seaview, Shanklin VYCC, Sandown, Ryde Saints, East Cowes Vics Reserves, Ventnor, W and B, Yarmouth and Calbourne.
In Division 3, Bembridge, Cowes Old Boys, East Cowes Youth, Gurnard Sports, Osborne Coburg, Pan Sports, Wakes and Wroxall will battle it out for honours.
Combination 1 will feature Binstead COB, Brading Town A, Brighstone, Carisbrooke, GKN, Newchurch, Northwood, Oakfield, Ryde Saints, Sandown, Shanklin, St Helens, West Wight and W and B, while Combination 2 will contain Bembridge, Kyngs Towne, Niton, Osborne Coburg, Rookley, Seaview, Shanklin VYCC, Wakes and Yarmouth and Calbourne.
At the meeting, a minute’s silence was held for IW Sunday League chairman and life vice-president, Harold Moody, whose death was reported in the County Press last week.
All the officers were voted back in but although Andrew Justice is continuing as league secretary, the post of fixture secretary will be taken by Andy King.
