n HOCKEY: Two goals in the final seven minutes stunned East Grinstead and gave Southgate a scarcely deserved 2-1 win to maintain their 100 per cent record in the English Hockey League premier division.
Captain Todd Williams blasted Southgate level with a penalty corner and Adrian Simons dramatically overturned East Grinstead's well-earned and long-standing lead with a scrambled winner with just five minutes left. The win keeps Southgate level on points with Cannock and Canterbury at the top of the table after three games.
Southgate began well enough but could not turn their pressure into goals. The visitors paid the price when Grinstead took the lead on 22 minutes. The shock seemed to wake up Southgate and Craig Carolan's superb charge from his own half past half a dozen challenges set up Simons for an unlikely late winner.
Southgate entertain rivals Old Loughtonians at Trent Park on Sunday at 2pm.
