NEWPORT maintained their good form in the Sydenhams Wessex League, Premier Division, with a 4-2 home victory over strugglers Alton Town.
The mainland side, who lie just above bottom side Cowes Sports in the table, held their own momentarily in the first half, equalising in the 34th minute after Tom McInnes put the Port in the lead early in the game.
However, another goal for McInnes, and two second-half goals for Iain Seabrook, earned the hosts all three points. Alton's second goal came in the 78th minute.
Meanwhile, in Division 1, a disjointed East Cowes Vics never got into a rhythm at home to Hythe and Dibden.
After captain Andy Ebbs had put the Vics in a 12th minute lead, Hythe held the majority of possession and chances and eventually they equalised, from the penalty spot.
Twice Vics were caught napping in the second half, and twice Hythe pounced to take all three points.
Brading Town's match away to Moneyfields, and Cowes Sports's home game against Bournemouth Poppies, were postponed owing to waterlogged pitches.
