OAKFIELD put in a physical and dominating performance to defeat an out-of-sorts West Wight today (Saturday) and win the IW Memorial Cup.
The side took control of the match, played at Brading Town's home ground, from the outset and took a 3-0 first half lead, with goals for Matt Foreman, two, and Nick Robinson.
With the slope in West Wight's favour in the second half, the Division 1 champions tried to put on more pressure but Oakfield goalkeeper Stuart Sussex was barely tested as shots went wide or were foiled by the Oakfield defence.
And when Oakfield scored a fourth through Phil McDonald the game seemed over.
But West Wight rallied strongly and strikes from Chris Bridges and sub Simon Merritt gave them hope. But time ran out and Oakfield lifted the cup.
