WEST Wight were dumped out of the IW County Press Challenge Cup at the first hurdle on Saturday, after defeat to Oakfield.

Despite a Danny Ross double, Oakfield came through thanks to goals from Phil McDonald, two, Sam Hart and Matt Brown.

In other matches, Adam Cantelo’s goal was enough to see Northwood past Osborne Coburg, while Allan Tyrell was on target in Cowes Sports Reserves’ win over Shanklin.

Brading Town enjoyed a fairly easy passage with a 3-0 win at Ryde Saints, Ben Armstrong, two, and Ollie Wilson scoring, while Nathan Barlow’s double and Jordan Browne’s goal ensured East Cowes Vics Reserves beat Ventnor 3-1.

In the first round of the Harwoods Fiat IW Memorial Cup, two teams hit double figures.

St Helens beat Seaclose 10-1, with goals from Tim Corbett, four, Gavin Dicker, two, Shaun Lancaster, two, Ben Brice and Nick Cade. Meanwhile, Sandown travelled to Shanklin A (Levi Randall) and won 11-1, goals courtesy of Chris Fletcher, three, Jake Lester, three, Chris Dowsett, Keith Attrill, Tom Bleach, Brad Kenning and defender Trevor Payne with a 20 yard volley.

Penalties decided the battle between W and B and AFC Wootton, with Wootton prevailing.

After 90 minutes the sides were locked at 1-1 (Ford Wilson for W and B, Ian Fraser for Wootton) and extra time saw no more goals, so spot kicks decided the match. Wootton won it 4-3.

Brighstone edged a five-goal thriller against Carisbrooke. Mike Kennett, Chris McClatchie and Bobby Craig scored to cancel out and beat efforts by Henry Bartlett and Damien Moul.

Back in league action, Pan enjoyed a 6-0 win in Division 1 of the Harwoods Vauxhall IW Saturday League.

Billy Chugg, two, Ashley Gulliver, Brendan Arnold, Kieran Allen and Josh Tombleson were all on target against GKN.

In Division 3, East Cowes Vics A lost 3-0 to Newport A, for whom Ryan Bradley (penalty), John Drakeford and Brandon Couling scored. A Lewis Mitchell header and some great saves from Matt Olive saw Ryde Saints A past AFC Bournemouth.

In Combination 1, Oakfield came from behind to beat Shanklin (Terry McDonald and Ricky Long) thanks to four goals from James Garrett, and some great saves from goalkeeper Andy Venn.

A double from Sam Rose and strikes from Callum Taylor and Dan Silk saw Northwood past Osborne Coburg (Chris Berners and Shaun Sweatman).

In Combination 2, Cowes Sports A came close to double figures, bating AFC Wootton 9-0, with goals from James Eldridge, three, Joe Winchcombe, three, Arthur Bradbury, two, and Andy Watson.

A hat-trick from Steven Siegal and goals for Dave Chiverton and Jamie Jardine earned Vectis Nomads a 5-0 win over Yarmouth and Calbourne, while Niton beat AFC Bournemouth by the same score.

The points were shared between Northwood (Grant Watt) and Brighstone (Alan Jones) and between Pan and Seaview in a 2-2 tie. Andrew Harding and Matt Nicholls scored for Pan, with Andy Peacock and Liam Woodhouse netting for Seaview.

Goals from John Godwin and Robert Kingsland were not quite enough for Carisbrooke, who lost 3-2 to Kyngs Towne, for whom Ollie Fletcher scored all three.
