Like many others, I was aghast to learn that a leaked document suggests that Croydon Councillors be salaried (Guardian, September 9).
May I suggest before this is even considered, other more important matters should come to the fore. Over the past five years this council has wasted enough money causing our Council Tax to become one of the highest in London. Millions will be spent on a tram system that will serve only about 10 per cent of Croydon residents. Town illuminations costing another million or so are to be introduced.
Many small businesses are being forced to the wall by this council. The Taxicard scheme is being reduced - to save money, allowing more for council indulgences. Schemes to help the elderly and disabled are being cut. Must we keep reminding this council that Croydon has one of the highest levels of disablement in London?
