Eton Manor...................32

Holt.................................7

(London League North East Div Three)

A DISJOINTED Manor side showed signs of improvement as they overcame bottom of the table Holt.

The visitors missed the opportunity to take an early lead after two minutes when Matt Powell missed a relatively easy penalty but from then on the game was there for the taking for Manor.

They didn't take the lead until the 15th minute following a penalty. Tony Patu took the short kick, put a flip pass out to Jon Pyke and the ball found its way to Simon Logan who powered over for the try.

The Manor forwards were the instigators of the second try. Dave Dennis, the young and highly talented hooker, created space for flanker Dave Peddler to crash over.

Pyke hit the conversion and he was again on target with a penalty for an interval score of 15-0.

Almost straight from the re-start, Shane Hand opened up the defence and fire-fighter Dave Cook burned up the turf with a 40-metre run to the line for a try which Pyke once again converted for a 22-0 lead.

Holt finally made the scoresheet from a well orchestrated penalty move to bring the scores back to 22-7, but Manor were not finished yet.

Steve Wright showed his true pace in the 64th minute and left all in his wake to complete a move that began just outside the Manor half.

The final score came when Patu intercepted a wayward pass from Powell and put Simon Logan through.

p HISTORY failed to repeat itself at Donkey Lane as Upper Clapton lost to mid-table rivals Enfield Ignatians in the Herts and Middlesex League division one.

Last season, Upper Clapton turned a 16-0 half-time deficit into a narrow win. On Saturday, they went in at half time 15-0 in arrears.

Clapton's only scores came from a Steve Douglas penalty and a Damien Bateman try. It was Ignatians' first win over Clapton.
