GARDENINGLAST weekend’s bout of summer sunshine meant thoughts about doing a bit of gardening could become reality.
Just like the warm weather, the Island’s only spring gardening event is fast approaching and tickets have just gone on sale in the County Press shop.
The Robin Hill Garden Show bounces back on April 24 and 25, after last year’s great Bestival clear up and it looks very good indeed.
With all the usual Island and mainland nurseries and businesses taking part, one of the highlights of this year’s show is set to be the Wightlink Floral Marquee.
At least a dozen of the best RHS plant nurseries in Southern England are already booked to make a breathtaking splash of colour in this centre-piece marquee.
Nurseries will compete for the coveted Wightlink floral challenge trophy and there will be £1,000 prize money up for grabs for best floral display of the weekend.
Floral art is also set to feature alongside art of a very different kind.
Chainsaw artists have been submitting designs and visitors will be able to watch their ideas transform into works of art over the weekend.
Bids will be taken for the items, with the proceeds going to the Earl Mountbatten Hospice.
There will also be all the usual plants, including gold medal-winning roses and fuchsias, shrubs and gardening adornments and equipment for sale at the show, sponsored by Wightlink, the County Press, Moreys and the Co-operative.
Much more is also in the pipeline for this year’s show.
