Mill Hill Village 130 Indian Gymkhana 128

Middlesex Championship

A five-wicket haul by fiery paceman Wayne Sizer lifted Mill Hill Village to a thrilling final-over victory against Indian Gymkhana last Saturday.

Despite missing five regular players and dropping five catches, the Village showed plenty of character and determination to record their first Saturday league victory since July last year.

Sent in to bat on a wet wicket, the Village were reeling at 6-3 before middle-order batsmen Michael Nairn (22), Liam Owen (34) and Wayne Hough (25 not out) helped the home team to a modest total of 130 off 52.3 overs.

In reply, Sizer and Owen picked up early wickets but a good partnership between V Sisodia (52) and P Bansal (42) put the visitors on top, needing just 19 runs to win with five wickets and eight overs remaining.

However, the return of Sizer ,, who finished with 5-30 off 17.3 overs ,, the probing off-spin of Nairn and a crucial run out saw Gymkhana lose their final five wickets for just 16 runs.

This Saturday Village visit local rivals Mill Hill in a league game before visiting Finchley in the Ibex Knockout Cup the following day.
