GOLFER Ryan Harmer hopes the Isle of Wight can help him achieve his dream of turning professional by 2018.
Following a successful 2016, which included gaining a course record on his way to winning Hampshire's Courage Trophy at Hockley Golf Club, the +2 handicapper has his sights set on the European Tour.
This year, the 21 year old, a member of Shanklin and Sandown and Freshwater golf clubs, intends to win competitions on the UK amateur circuit, before turning professional next year.
Harmer, who works as a shop assistant at Peter Hammond's Pro Shop at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club, will host an event at Freshwater Golf Club on Wednesday, February 15, aimed at gaining sponsorship from Island businesses and individuals, to help support his journey.
He said: "Sponsorship will allow me to play at the highest level of amateur golf and then enable me to continue my dream of becoming a professional golfer.
"It would mean so much for people to support and have belief in me.
"I have such a passion for golf and I want nothing more than to be able to play on the European Tour.
"So far my family has supported me, allowing me to follow my dream and without them I could not have done half the things I have achieved.
"I feel indebted to them and one day, when I am on the European Tour, I will repay them.
"The next five years are vital for me to become a professional golfer and this is why I am asking for people's help to be part of my dream."
The event on February 15 starts at 7pm.
