NEARLY 30 years since she last competed for Team IW at the Island Games, Dawn Hodge has been selected again — but this time in a different sport.
Hodge, 45, of Bembridge, will head to Gotland, Sweden, in June, as part of the Island’s ladies’ golf team.

She last competed at an Island Games in the Faroe Islands in 1989, when, as a 17-year old-athlete, she won gold in the 4 x 400m team relay and silver in the 4 x 100m, as well making the final in the individual events.
Hodge, who runs the Lockslane Bistro, Bembridge, said: "It was a lot different back then.
"I stayed with a family who didn’t speak any English, and although they were lovely, I’m looking forward to being in the team hotel this year.
"The attention on the games has also really changed and after giving it some thought, I’m now really excited.
"I just felt Sweden was meant to be."
Hodge, a member at Shanklin and Sandown Golf Club, joins Sophie Beardsall, Sammi Keen and Lucy Burke in the team.
The five handicapper said: "Sweden has a fantastic reputation for golf and we could be playing on one of the country’s best courses.
"I was really excited and honoured to be selected for the ladies’ golf team, it’s great to be able to compete both as an individual but also as a team.
"As somebody who has always played team sports this is important to me and an opportunity I will relish.
"I know the standard of golf will be exceptionally high at the games but what a fantastic opportunity and experience."
l Team IW’s crowdfunding appeal has been extended until the end of February.
Any money raised through donations will be put towards the team’s expenses for the trip to Gotland.
Donations made by tonight (Friday) will be put forward into a draw to win items signed by Island Olympians Jess Martin and swimmer Darren Mew.
