Great scores despite tricky conditions

GOLFDESPITE breezy conditions, some very good golf was played at Freshwater Bay Golf Club’s seniors’ open.

Winning the John Cottle Trophy for the best home score of the day was Stuart Harrower, on 41 points.

Chris West topped division 1 for the home players with 39 points , with Mike Dowsett one adrift on 38. In Division 2, Peter Marsden was top with 40 points, one ahead of Tony Hammonds.

The winner of the Seniors’ Open Trophy for the best away score went to Martin Crosskey, of Osborne, on 34 points.

Noel Dobbs, from Shanklin, was top of the division 1 away players with 33 points. Two more Shanklin players took second and third spots, with Peter Parmenter’s better back nine just pipping David Stevens.

In Division 2, Dave Wilkins (Ryde) on 32 points came first, with John Taylor from Osborne in second.
