Aldershot and Farnham Ladies 0, IW Ladies 4

IW ARE celebrating going into the Christmas period without dropping a point, their win over Aldershot at the weekend being their ninth in nine.

Struggling towards the bottom of the league, Aldershot and Farnham played a defensive game in the first half marking tightly and preventing the IW’s neat passing game.

However, the IW pressure finally paid off when Leeya Roovis found the back of the net with a reverse stick effort to lead at half time.

In the second half, they pulled away. Young midfielders Georgia Whittle and Lacey Gammage showed skill and determination, preventing any decisive attacks from their opponents, and the IW attack found its bite, with Kate Ednay twice finding the back of the net from close range.

Liz Williams took advantage of goalie error, controlling the ball in mid air before smashing the ball past the keeper. Her fantastic effort was disallowed as the umpires failed to play advantage, but the resulting short corner was swiftly dispatched into the goal by Jaimie Unsworth.

IW go into the Christmas break eight points clear of their nearest rivals.

IW: Martin, Mumford, Unsworth, Hunnybun, Gammage, Williams, Newton, Whittle, Horwell, Roovis and Ednay.
