HOCKEYIW II 6, Trojans VI 2

IW II comfortably progressed to the quarter-finals of the Hampshire Open League Trophy with a convincing, if at times nervy, win over lower-league side Trojans VI.

The visitors were confident after calling up higher team players to be able to field a full side and they took the lead, following several IW chances.

However, their joy did not last long as James Liddard replied immediately.

The IW came out all guns blazing the second half and they took the lead through Sam Brown.

After Trojans levelled, IW pressed on an regained the lead courtesy of another Liddiard strike.

Simon Butler then increased the lead before Brown grabbed his second.

There was time for Rob Forrest to slot home a penalty flick, after Reece Finney had seen his goal-bound shot illegally cleared off the line.

IW II face cup favourites Gillingham on March 21.

Fareham V 4, IW II 1

League leaders Fareham were handed several nervy moments during this match, a game they expected to win in convincing style.

They were given a shock when Liddiard gave the Islanders the lead, scoring with an excellent shot from a tight angle.

However, Fareham fought back and by half time, they were 2-1 up.

The second half saw the IW trying to cause Fareham problems but, ultimately, the home side pulled away for victory with two more goals.
