HOCKEYUpper Chine Old Girls 3, Ryde School 2
AFTER nearly 16 years since the closure of Upper Chine School, some of their old pupils formed a hockey team for the first time to play the school they merged with, now Ryde School, last weekend.
Some of the girls are now young mothers and all left between 1979 and 1995.
The pace of the match was fast with skilful play from both sides.
The Old Girls had not lost their form as they soon gelled and were linking passes well. Christina Allison (Summerhayes) scored for Upper Chine after three minutes, from a superb pass out to her on the wing by Yvonne Newton. Allison scored again just before half time.
In the second half Upper Chine scored their third goal when a fumbled melee in the goal mouth left Sarah Ussher (Morgan) to tip the ball over the line.
Ryde strengthened their side at half time by bringing on Cameron Mitchell. He added pace on the ball and with support from Alice Lemkes and Ashlie Leal's attempts at goal, Upper Chine’s defence was put to the test. After several amazing saves by Alan Cheung, Aimee Smart finally put one past him and another soon followed by Mitchell two minutes before full time.
Thanks to support on the side line by former pupils Lucy Davies (Jackson) and Pippa Cheung (Mackay).
