HOCKEYHOCKEY starlet Holly Newton has made her national debut.
Holly, 17, who attends Island Innovation VI Form Campus, was selected after several trials run by England Hockey, to play in the EHB Futures Cup, at Cannock Hockey Club in Staffordshire.
Over four days, Holly played in defence for the Wessex Leopards, playing in all four matches and winning 5-1 against the Pennine Pumas, 2-0 against Mercia Lynx and drawing 3-3 against the Saxon Tigers having been 3-0 down at half time.
The side went on to beat the Tigers the following day in the girls’ under-18s finals, 5-1.
Out of the 60 girls taking part, England Hockey will now select a squad of 18 to represent England at under-18s level.
Her dad, Mark, said: "As parents we are hugely proud of Holly, who has worked so hard to get to this very high standard and we would like to thank her club, Trojans, in Southampton, for all their support as well as John Milton who trained Holly in the early days."
