Wimborne II 5, IW 3
WIMBORNE gave the IW an early wake-up call, as the season got under way last Saturday.
Despite taking the lead early on through Tom Young, some ill-discipline allowed the opposition to scamper through and level the score.
Disjointed play made it tough going for much of the game, with Wimborne in control and able to press, as passes went astray from a weakened Island side unable to field its best team.
Despite some valiant saves from Tom Butt, the opposition slotted another four goals, making a comeback doubtful, but the Island’s heads never fell, and with 12 minutes left, a reshuffle on the pitch the team finally started to click and although goals from Colin Simmons and Stephen Woodford gave hopes of a comeback, they were unable to reduce the deficit further.
IW: Butt, Allen, Heaven-Gandy, Donald, Gould, Lloyd, Liddiard, Simmons, Young, Woodford, Butler
