IW 8, Haslemere III 1
AFTER the disappointment of last weekend, IW finally got their season under way in style, with victory over Haslemere III.
They took the lead after piling on the pressure, with Haslemere unable to break out of their half.
With some excellent build up play, IW built up a 3-0 lead by half-time.
They scored another five in the second half, the IW playing with confidence and playing some lovely passing hockey.
Haslemere only troubled IW with a well-struck short corner in the second half, but were unable to build on this.
Although it was a solid performance by all, Tom Young stood out with his four goals picking up man of the match.
Colin Simmons, two, and Stephen Woodford also scored, with an own goal.
IW: Brown, Allen, Heaven-Gandy, Simmons, Liddiard, Young, Woodford, Butt, Butler, Stubbings, Peatfield.
Winchester 6, IW II 0
With only ten players, the task of the IW II squad was always going to be tough.
And so it proved as Winchester ran out clear winners thanks to a devastating first-half display. They scored five in the first half, but were stemmed by a strong defensive IW performance in the second. The game was ended ten minutes before time after an injury to a Winchester player.
Man of the match was goalkeeper Tom Speer.
IW II: Speer, Armour, Dickinson, Pearson, Dean, Reynolds, Lynas, Bartlett, Joyce, Cripps.
