Gutsy win in gusty winds

IW 2, Aldershot and Farnham II 1

ON A wet and blustery day, IW were forced to put in a more workman-like performance than the silky hockey they had played a week before.

IW had chances with short corners but these were misfiring until a clean pass resulted in Stuart Allen rifling the ball into the bottom left hand corner.

Further attempts went begging but the first half remained 1-0, despite excellent tackling and skills from man of match Calvin Dickinson on the right.

The second half started with a more committed opposition who had their chances, these were finally rewarded through a short corner.

With both teams trying to secure possession, some heated challenges were made with Aldershot and Farnham coming off worse, receiving two yellow cards for their trouble.

John Peatfield put up a strong defensive display, showing he will be missed as he leaves the team for the next couple of months.

With 12 minutes left on the clock, IW settled and held possession of the ball and this gave Tom Young the opportunity to pick the ball up, and after a display of individual dribbling brilliance saw him slot home.

The team were relieved to have won, and look forward to improving their game before they travel to Chichester this weekend.

IW: T. Butt, Allen, Stubbings, P. Butt, Dickinson, Peatfield, Heaven-Gandy, Liddiard, Young, Gould, Woodford, Simmons.
