IW 6, Fordingbridge 2
IW GAINED revenge over the only team to take points off them this season, as they battled to a hard earned victory at Smallbrook.
Having somehow lost 1-0 in the first match, IW were keen to make amends and they took the lead when Stuart Allen powered home a penalty corner, before Colin Simmonds added a second soon after.
IW switched off on the stroke of half time, not reacting quickly enough to a free hit that caught keeper Tom Butt by surprise to make it 2-1.
In the second half, IW made sure they would not be pressured again, Simmonds gaining a crucial third and then sweeping home for his hat-trick to make it 4-1.
The visitors kept themselves in the match when they scored from a penalty flick, but IW came back again and goals from Simmonds and Simon Butler sealed a comfortable win.
IW: Butt, Bartlett, Heaven-Gandy, Stubbings, Reynolds, Allen, Gould, Simmonds, Parker, Nicolaou, Liddiard, Butler
Bournemouth VI 1, IW II 6
League leaders IW II got back to winning ways at Bournemouth on Saturday, having lost their unbeaten record to second-placed Fareham in the previous match.
The Island started the game strongly and after having a goal from Stephen Woodford ruled out in the first minute, they opened their account through James Wheeler.
It was one-way traffic with Bournemouth struggling to get to grips with the pacey IW forwards, including under-16s debutant Peter Hepburn.
Chances went begging, however, and Bournemouth made them pay, equalising after a series of errors gifted an opportunity.
IW play became disjointed and only a fine save from keeper Tom Speer from another breakaway kept the scores level at half time.
In the second half, IW came out in determined mood, taking the game to Bournemouth and forcing them on the defensive.
Yet again, the opposition goalie performed heroics, but once again the pressure finally told, with Carl Joyce giving IW a lead they would not relinquish.
Goals from Joyce, two, Tom Young and Wheeler rounded off a fine victory.
IW are three points clear of Fareham at the top with a game in hand.
IW: Speer; Pearson, Dickinson, Dean, Donald, Howsam, Hepburn, Young, Woodford, Wheeler, Joyce.
