A hockey-playing reveller, in fancy dress, celebrates the festival.
HOCKEYALMOST 25 teams took part in this year’s IW Hockey Festival at Newport last weekend.
The festival, which has been running for many years, traditionally closes the hockey season for the IW Hockey Club, which itself enters teams into the event.
The focus was very much on having fun and socialising and every team got in on the spirit, with many donning fancy dress.
One team dressed as a group of commandos, blowing a bugle instead of a whistle each time a foul was called, while another dressed up in tribute to Baywatch.
However, some teams took it very seriously, with mainland side Kenley sending three teams to take part — one of which featured two national league standard players.
Preparations for next season’s festival are already well underway, and it promises to be even bigger.
For the IW Hockey Club, attention now turns to the club’s AGM on May 22.
