HOCKEYVectis Ladies 2, Havant Haymakers 1
AFTER a frustrating match the previous week, Vectis came out fighting against the very experienced Havant veterans’ team.
Both teams had a lot of possession playing the ball stick to stick, with most of the play in the middle of the pitch and edges of the semi circle, and not many challenges for the goalkeepers.
The first goal came from a long ball from joint player of the match, Mumford, who from her own half hit the goal post much to the defenders surprise.
When the ball rebounded the first to react was Imogen Brade who was rewarded with the goal and put Vectis in the lead.
Towards the end of the second half, Havant left open space in the centre of the pitch which Brade took full advantage of, but her stunning shot skimmed narrowly over the top of the cross bar.
Andrea Millband had a good chance to increase the score but she was thwarted by the ferocious Havant goalkeeper.
Two minutes after the second half, Brade took her second chance and intercepted a rebound of the keepers’ pads, again from a Mumford cross, tapping over the line to increase the Vectis tally.
The end of the match saw some attacking chances from Havant, with joint player of the match Jaimie Unsworth making some vital saves to keep them at bay.
One short corner was converted but Vectis hung on.
