HOCKEY

IW Ladies 4, Aldershot and Farnham 0

MAINTAINING their unbeaten record, the IW were unstoppable at home on Saturday, beating Aldershot and Farnham 4-0.

Despite the four-week break, IW quickly found their rhythm neatly switching the ball from left to right through the pivotal Holly Newton. The unmarked Jaimie Unsworth was able to inject the ball into the D and Liz Williams’s shot was deflected in by Kate Ednay.

Lacey Gammage and Claire Caddick, back from injury, worked well down the left side, stemming the opposition attack and turning defence into attack.

This resulted in the second IW goal, tapped in by Lynn Horwell, joint player of the match.

Feeling confident, IW continued their pressure in the second half, and despite going down to ten players for five minutes, extended their lead with goals from Carolyn McClellan and Georgia Whittle.

With other results also going their way, IW are now ten points clear of second place.

Joint players of the match were Williams and Horwell.

IW: Hunnybun, Mumford, Caddick, Unsworth, Newton, Whittle, Horwell, Williams, Gammage, Ednay, McClellan, Roovis, Richardson.
