A PHOTOGRAPH of a Bromley soldier in a concentration camp has sparked a search for his family after it turned up in a junk shop in Wales.

The photo, showing prisoners of war in Stalag 18A, Wolfsberg, Austria, is addressed to Mrs J P Garvey, Babbacombe Road, Bromley, and signed by John (Jack) Patrick Garvey. It was dated December 14, 1941.

Richard Caville, from Portsmouth, found the photo while rummaging through bric-a-brac in a second-hand shop in south Wales.

He said: "I have had it for some time but I wonder if there are any family or relatives who would like the photo returned to them. There is a message on the back to his wife, Doris. He mentions mum and dad."

Researcher Ian Brown, whose father was a POW at the camp, said: "The photo looks like a group shot of occupants of Hut 22."

Thousands of young servicemen ended up at Stalag 18A during the Second World War, having been captured in Greece in 1941.
